Brad and Katie Rice are a husband-and-wife team that bring 20 years experience to the building industry. Both graduates of Appalachian State University, they have merged Katie’s building science expertise with Brad’s hands-on skills. Their idea to create a “bellwether” company was realized when they moved to Asheville in 2000.

Brad worked his way up in the building trades. He began his journey as a framer in Boone, North Carolina, and later studied under a Master Finish Carpenter in Portland, Oregon. Brad’s life experience and his strong relationship with his sub-contractors have endowed him a thorough understanding of the construction industry.

Katie earned a degree in Building Science with a specialty in Sustainable Development. She worked for Southface Energy Institute where she combined her degree-honed skills with a lifelong interest in design and energy solutions. Katie’s technical background, not to mention her feminine touch, adds tremendous value to the business.
